TEXAS SCRAMBLE DEFINITION

Texas Scramble is a form of team competition in golf. In the purest, simplest form of Texas Scramble all members of the team tee off. Then one of these drives is chosen to be used for the next shot and all members of the team play their ball from this spot as follows:

  • the chosen player’s shot hits from where the ball lies and the second player hits from within 6 inches of that position but no nearer the hole. Please note that the second player can place their ball if on the fairway or in a bunker, but must drop their ball if in the rough

From these second shots, one is chosen and all play a third shot from there – and so on until the ball is holed. Each team returns one score for each hole.

Note: when on the putting green, both players putt from exactly the same spot (unless the first player holes out, obviously)

In summary, a 2-person Scramble is a competition format that is exactly what it sounds like: a scramble in which the teams consist of two players each. After each golfer on a side plays a stroke, the teammates compare the results and select the best one. Both players then play the next stroke from that spot. This is repeated, including on the putting green, until the ball is holed. One team score is recorded.
